Besides judges, the other essential aspect of Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) 2015 is umpires since they would control the contest. The umpires would have training so that they would have the same views as the judges in giving score. The umpires function to give warning or fault to the robots during the contest. “It is clearly noticed that umpires are the essential part of the contest. We have provided 10 umpires of KRI from Regional Three, Central Java and Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY),” informed Wahyudi, S.T., M.T., a chief of KRSBI in an interview on Wednesday (10/6) at Sportorium of UMY.
Wahyudi continued that the umpires would be trained tomorrow at 2 pm. The training would be delivered by the judges. They would also gain guidelines of contest regulation of each robot contest. “We have prepared lodging and accommodation for judges and umpires from out of town,” he inserted.
Umpires were selected based on certain categories. “The selected umpires are those who have experiences to be an umpire of robot contests. There is no requirement how long they have experienced to be the umpire. As long as they have experienced, they could be the umpires. For the selection, the committee did it,” he added.
As being elucidated by Ir. Wahidin wahab, M.Sc., Ph.D., chief of judges of KRI 2015, each robot contest has its own regulation. For instance, in Fire Fighting Robot Contest, the robot damping down the greatest amount of fire would be the winner. The other regulation is that, if the robot crushes dolls, it would be disqualified. Those regulations should be recognized by the umpires to that the judges would easily give the score,” he explained.
There would be 10 umpires of the contest coming from several universities in Central Java and DIY. They are Andi Kurniawan Nygroho ST, MT and Agus Margiantono, S,Si, MT from University of Semarang (USM), Sugeng Ariyono, B.
