ABU Robocon 2015 will be conducted on 22-23 August 2015 at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). Two lecturers of Engineering Faculty of UMY, namely Rama Okta Wiyagi, S.T., M.Eng., and Rexa Giga, S.T. M.Sc., will be the referees in the Asia-Pacific robot contest.
In an interview on Saturday (22/8) Rama conveyed that he did not expect to be selected as the referee by the committee of international robot contest. “I did not believe that I can represent UMY to be the international robot contest referee. I will work professionally to succeed this robot contest,” he stated.
Rama inserted that he did not have certain preparation to be the referee. “10 other referees and I always carry out coordination so that the rules and regulations of the contest can be established, and today all participants will weigh their robots and have running test,” he added.
Moreover, Reza Giga expected that the contest joined by 19 teams of 18 Asia-Pacific countries will be beneficial for UMY and himself. Being trusted to be the international robot referee is valuable experience, and I wish it will benefits students of UMY so that they are motivated to always work and to join robot contest,” he hoped.
Being the host of international firstly conducted in Indonesia, UMY is expected will make Indonesia proud in international level. “Indeed, it will bring UMY’s expectation in to reality as World Class University,” he wished.
Furthermore, the umpire of ABU Robocon 2015 Dr. Wahidin Wahab elucidated that the contest rules is the same as the rules of Indonesia Robot Contest (KRI) for ABU Rabocon category organized at UMY on June. “Nevertheless, there is an evaluation regarding the participant attendance so that the ABU Robocon participants will get suspension if the come late to the arena. The rules are getting tighter,” he emphasized.
Dr. Wahidin indormed that the rules and regulations of ABU Robocon 2015 are in accordance with ABU while the game rules are equal to the badminton game. “The distinction is only on the time duration, 3-5 minutes. Each team may have four serves, and if a team infringes the rules, the score will be diminished and added to the opponent,” he mentioned. Additionally, 12 referees of ABU Robocon 2015 are from Indonesia, and there are five judges that three of them are from Thailand, India, and Japan, while the others are from Indonesia.
