23 Teams Compete at the Student Basketball League

Students Basketball League (Lima) 2018 was conducted 18-25 July 2018 at Gedung Olahraga Ki Bagoes Hadikoesoemo of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII). Participated by 13 male teams and 10 teams throughout Yogyakarta and Central Java, the league aimed to enhance students’ interest and talents in basketball.

General Manager of the Lima Rida Achmad informed that it was the sixth Lima. “There are several leagues a year such as basketball, badminton, futsal, volley, and swimming. Next year there will be other leagues as karate, archery, and silat (self-defense martial art). Students’ enthusiasm for the student basketball league is high because it is a medium for athletes to show their talents,” declared Rida in an interview on Thursday (19/7).

Rida told that the registration for the Lima got tight as the participants have performed social activities at least six times and had GPA of 2.0. “The regulations are addressed to boost students to be good at not only sport but also academic fields. This league may also interweave good relationship among students,” she maintained.

Meanwhile, a basketball coach of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) said that the Lima was an occasion for students to demonstrate their capability. “A male team of UMY competes with Universitas Atma Jaya (UAJY) at the league opening. We had exercise for six months and our athletes are students of batch 2016-2017 so that this league will escalate their experience in joining a basketball competition. After competing with the UAJY, UMY will have matches with UGM and UNY teams. Both teams are tough. Thus, UMY remains having exercise and arranges strategies to pass to the next round,” he asserted.
