3,152 UMY Students Perform Community Service

As an effort to embody Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Principles of Higher Education), on Wednesday (18/7) at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) 3,152 students was officially announced to perform community service in Java and overseas.

Vice Rector of Academic Affairs Dr. Ir. Sukamta, M.T., IPM informed that the students were divided into several groups carrying out the community service in 10 regencies, namely Pemalang, Purbalingga, Kebumen, Purworejo, Boyolali, Kulonprogo, Gunung Kidul, Sleman, Klaten and Bantul. There were two groups doing community service in Singapore and the Philippines, while 14 students with other students from Muhammadiyah-affiliated institutions throughout Indonesia undertook community service in Purbalingga.

For a month, the students interacted with community so that they had to be able to adapt and bring significant changes in where they did community service. Indeed, the students should be a role model for the community. “Students of UMY should be boosters in the community,” declared Sukamta.

Meanwhile, Chief of Expert of Ministry of Village, Disadvantaged Region, and Transmigration advised the students. “First, you have to believe in yourselves and you may not doubt to share your ideas. Second, trust your friends because chaos will occur without the trust. Third, remember that you are on behalf of UMY. Last, please well behave,” he mentioned.

Additionally, at the end of the official announcement, UMY launched a new system, namely Sistem Informasi Mahasiswa – Student Information System (SIM) functioning to register, report the community service, and print a community service certificate via online. The system can be accessed by students in 2019 at kkn.umy.ac.id.
