UMY’s Students Achieve Gold in PIMNAS 28

Students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) achieved gold medal of PKM-M (Community Service) in National Scientific Week (PIMNAS) 28 in University of Halu Oleo Kendari on 5-10 October 2015. Their proposal of PKM-M was entitled Qur’an Girls ‘A Dysmenorrhea studio with relaxation of murrotal Qur’an to improve adolescent reproductive health in Tlogo Village’.

In an interview on Thursday (15/10) at Office of Public Relation and Protocol Affairs, one of the members Zerlina Ghassani informed, “There were two competition categories to score namely presentation and poster. Alhamdulillah, we gained gold medal for presentation category defeating thousands of other participants of various universities in Indonesia.”

Zerlinda inserted that her team undertook a lot preparation such as physical and mental preparation for the national competition. “We passed long process of preparing the competition. For instance, we had exercise of presentation every day, and physical exercise,” she continued.

Furthermore, Helena mentioned that the establishment of the studio aimed at elevating adolescent girls’ knowledge of female reproductive health, particularly in Tlogo village, and enhancing adolescent girls’ ability in confronting dysmenorrhea. “The establishment of dysmenorrheal studio pointed at educating and providing therapy alternative of non pharmacological management for dysmenorrheal sufferers feeling uncomfortable during their menstruation by murrotal Qur’an.

Additionally, the members of the PKM-M were Hafidha Fatma Sari, Zerlinda Ghassani, Helena Widyastuti, Indri Lestari, and Inggrid Selviana. They selected a method of murrotal Qur’an to handle dysmenorrheal since murrotal (listening to tartil reading of verses of Al-Qur’an) can bear peace of mind, and human voice is incredible and easily accessible healing instrument. “The voice can alleviate stress hormones, activate natural endorphin hormone, lift relax feeling, distract fear, anxiety, and stress, improve body chemical system so that blood pressure will decrease and stunt breath, heartbeat, pulse, and brainwaves,” she elucidated.
