Two medical students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), dr. Ardilla Waraduhita and dr. Ari Irawan, achieved the highest national score of Medical Student Exam (UKMPPD) organized by Directorate of Higher Education (DIKTI). The exam aimed at enhancing quality of doctors so that they can foster public health in Indonesia. It was announced by Head of Medical Department dr. Alfaina Wahyuni, Sp.OG., M.Kes. in an Inauguration and Hippocratic Oath Period 47 of Medical and Health Science Faculty on Thursday (22/10) at Sportorium of UMY. The event was also attended by DIKTI of Muhammadiyah and Head of IDI (Indonesia Doctor Association) of DIY.
There were two test of UKMPDD, namely Computer Based Test (CBT) or theoretical exam and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) or practicum exam. “UKMPPD revealed that, Alhamdulillah, two doctors of UMY gained top 10 national score so that UMY is the one and only private university obtained the achievement,” dr. Alfaina informed.
She mentioned that there were 132 doctors declaring Hippocratic oath. It is counted that there were 2.456 doctors graduating from UMY. “I wish that these inaugurated doctors can assist Indonesian government to elevate national health quality, cope with global issues, and compete with foreign doctors coming to Indonesia,” she expected.
Furthermore, Dean of Medical and Health Science Faculty dr. Andi Pramono, Sp. An., M.Kes stated that expectation and responsibility of health in Indonesia are on these new doctors. “Having a title means these doctors have rights, responsibility, and independence of maintaining patients’ health. Indeed, primer services of doctors are spearhead of promotional and preventive health service in BPJS era,” he emphasized.
Additionally, rector of UMY Prof. Bambang Cipto, M.A. advised that graduates of UMY should dedicate themselves to Muhammadiyah. “A lot of Muhammadiyah’s charity efforts focusing on health field are widely spread in Indonesia so that the main duty of UMY’s graduates is elevating it. Wherever these new doctors work, they have to remain contributing to Muhammadiyah since UMY’s principles are having spiritual intelligence, moral intelligence, and intellectual intelligence,” he uttered.
