Optimizing maritime sector of Indonesia is one of Jokowi’s visions. It can ensue if government concerns with people in living in sea shore to maintain Indonesia maritime security by social alert. This issue was discussed by two International Relations students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) in the 27th Scientific Discussion of International Relations Students of Indnesia (PNMHI). It was conducted at Surakarta State University (UNS) on 15-20 November 2015.
Both students were Anang Wahid Efendi who is a student of batch 2013 and Preti Epira who is a student of batch 2014. They won the PNMHI which having a topic politics, law, and security. “Alhamdulillah, we won the winner for the category of scientific discussing which the topic was politics, law, and security,” told Anang in an interview at Public Relations and Protocol office on Saturday (26/12).
They talked about social alert since they argued that government has not optimized yet the capability of fishermen in maintaining Indonesia security through social alert. “We proposed to the government to engage people in the sea shore in maintaining Indonesia security by social alert,” Preti inserted.
Additionally, PNMHI comprised two competition categories, namely scientific discussion and short diplomatic course. “We wrote a paper, and it was accepted by the committee. Then, we presented it. The first runner up was Riau State University while the second runner up was University of Parahyangan (UNPAR), Bandung,” she informed.
Anang expected that other International Relations students could join the next PNMHI. “I with that International Relation of UMY could be the grand champhion of the 28th PNMHI. Besides, this PNMHI is very valuable to create networks among International Relations students across Indonesia,” he ended.
