An author of 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa (99 Lights in the European Sky) Drg. Hanum Salsabila Rais invited 1,200 freshmen of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) to be more innovative and to make their institution proud. In student orientation (Mataf) of FEB of UMY 2017 on Tuesday (22/8) at Sportorium, she advised the students not to focus only reaching high scores.
Hanum conveyed that to create a successful work, a person should follow her/his passion. “The passion refers to what we like, what we can do, and the reward which we can get from it,” mentioned Hanum, who also achieved the best-selling gramedia 2016.
Furthermore, she told her story starting from studying at Department of Dentistry of University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) to deciding to become a writer. She said that being a dentist is not her passion. She realized since the first semester of her study. However, she attempted to prove to her parents that she could accomplish what she had been started.
“I am not so sorry to be a dentist because I met my husband, Mas Rangga, when I had an internship in a hospital. I would not meet him, if I did not continue my study. Hence, you have to finish what you have begun,” told the 36-year-old woman. After she graduated from UGM, she attempted to pursue his dream of being a presenter.
Hanum also conveyed that in this era information can be gained from everywhere or it is called as ‘information obesity’. “If it gets obese, it should be given detoxification,” she said.
In addition, Hanum shared tips of how to our writing can inspire others. “All writings can inspire when it comes from the heart. I cannot follow J.K Rowling or Andrea Hirata since our genre writing is different. Indeed, you have to be persistent and consistently pray because world and the hereafter must be balanced. You have to know that Allah will be shy if His servants ask many times but He has not granted yet,” she maintained.
