Department of Governmental Studies and LP3M of UMY Conducted a National Seminar on Community Service 

Lecturers of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has performed a lot of community service, but journal publications dealing with the community service are only few. To enhance the number of publications, Department of Governmental Studies of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted a national seminar on “Strengthening Science and Techology Innovation for Local Government” on Thursday (24/4) on the fourth floor of Graduate School of UMY. 

The seminar was also attended by Regent of Dompu Drs. H. Bambang M. Yasin, a reviewer of Student Creativity Programs (PKM) of Office of Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), and Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIPOL) of UMY. Chief of the seminar committee Isnaini Maulidin, S.IP., MPA stated, “There are a lot of community service activities, yet only few reports are given to public.” 

He added that the seminar is essential in order that an output of the community service is a journal providing innovation to public. Innovation is a strength of higher education. Thus, community service carried out by UMY lecturers will be published on BERDIKARI Journal of UMY.  We expect that all lecturers contribute to papers which they will submit,” he declared. 

“In Dompu, Nusa Tenggara Barat, the people plant corn and produce food and drinks from the corn such as candies,” he told. 

Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UMY Dr. Ir. Sukamta, MT., IPM revealed that the seminar innitiated by Department of Governmental Studies of UMY was a follow up of BERDIKARI Camp, a training for UMY lecturers who received community service grants or is performing community service.  to write journal articles. 

Besides increasing the university rank, Sukamta mentioned, “The BERDIKARI Camp aimed to give benefits for people. 65 lecturers joined the BERDIKARI Camp. They successfully made 95 books and other outcomes, and 50 papers were published on BERDIKARI Journal of UMY. The journal on community service has existed since 2012.”
