Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has been established for 38 years and had thousands of alumni in Indonesia who have contributed to this nation in various aspects. To appreciate the alumni, UMY will conduct Alumni Awards as one of the event series of UMY’s 38 Anniversary Commemoration. To be organized on 30 March 2019, the Alumni Awards also aim to reinforce relationship among alumni.
“The Alumni Awards are for alumni devoting themselves for not only this university but most importantly also community since they are expected to bring positive impacts wherever they are. The awards will be rewarded to alumni dedicating themselves in several areas such as politics, arts, culture, and other,” declared Head of Office of Student and Alumni Development (LPKA) of UMY Faris Al-Fadhat, Ph.D.
Faris inserted that the awards are merely awarded to alumni who have become prominent in Indonesia because everyone can give contribution to community. “We have to make it clear that achievements are not always for great people. Alumni of UMY who actively engage in community or become volunteers or teachers possess vital roles. We measure the achievements bases on their contribution to and impacts on community,” emphasized Faris.
Additionally, committee of the Alumni Awards collaborates with Alumni Association of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (KAUMY) to select nominees of the Alumni Awards. The KAUMY will promote and choose the nominees from a number of areas. However, everyone may propose alumni to be nominated. Candidates of the Alumni Awards 201 can be registered on an official website of the Alumni Awards, alumniawards.umy.ac.id.
Furthermore, the Alumni Awards comprise of Alumni Achievement Awards and Outstanding Alumni Awards.
