Technology has rapidly and massively developed to ease people’s life. Most of devices nowadays are connected to internet. Indeed, connectivity is the main aspects in this Industrial Revolution 4.0.

At a national seminar and Electrofair 2019 on Tuesday (19/3) at Amphitheater of Building of K.H. Ibrahim E7 of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Directorate General for Resources and Post and Informatics Devices DR. IR. Ismail, M.T. conveyed that the existence of 5G will become a renewal bringing huge influences on technology in Indonesia.

At the seminar conducted by Department of Electrical Engineering of UMY, Ismail stated that the 5G is different from 4G and 3G. “The previous ones are only for certain devices such as phones, while the 5G will be applied in all connected devices,” he declared.

The new technology enables the growth of Indonesia. “This country has 261.9 people and 2/3 of them are at a productive age. Besides, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Indonesia is 1.02 trillion US dollars with an increase of 5.1 percent and it is predicted by International Monetary Fund (IMF) to lift 0.4 percent. In fact, an internet penetration has reached 50.6 percent of all Indonesian population,” informed Ismail.

“The 5G technology will improve efficiency if it is firstly implemented in industries as machine type communication. Then, we can accelerate the application of industrial revolution 4.0., public services as smart city, and digital economy,” he continued.

Ismail mentioned that the economic digital provides enormous occasions if it supports internet of things. “Due to the connectivity, many sectors will need to be integrated with internet in order that the application can be implemented. Thus, young generations should actively take roles in being digital talents meeting the demand,” he emphasized.
