Recently there have been a lot of issues that are connected with corruption, collusion, and nepotism that occur in various regions in Indonesia. In fact, the current problems that have arisen and become a public concern are not only related to governance management, but also environmental issues that have an impact on government policy.
“The issues are becoming an urgent problem that should be resolved immediately through the contribution of the government towards environmental sustainability to achieve the ideal survival of the community. Therefore, we are holding this Government Gathering event, which is an opportunity for the UMY academic community and the Regional Government to be able to mutually exchange experiences, discussions, and collaborating on Good and Green Governance to develop cooperation and provide breakthroughs for local communities in solving various problems, “said the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Head of the International Cooperation and Affairs Institute (LKS UMY) Eko Priyono Purnomo, M.Res ., Ph.D in the Government Gathering on Tuesday (18/02) at the UMY Global Youth Campus Sportorium.
This second Government Gathering raised the theme of G5 (Government Gathering on Good and Green Governance) with the tagline “Better Government for Better Environment”. There were three sessions in this event, namely the first session that began with the opening, greeting and signing of the MoU, the second session which was a discussion on Good Governance with the Governor of Central Java H. Ganjar Pranowo, SH, M.IP, and the third session which was a discussion on Green Governance together with DKI Jakarta Governor H. Anies Rasyid Baswedan, SE, MPP, Ph.D through a teleconference. Also attending were Regional Heads from various cities in Indonesia, all chancellors of universities in Yogyakarta, and Headmasters of Muhammadiyah High Schools in Yogyakarta.
On the same occasion, Rector of UMY, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P, IPM also said that UMY needed to network with regents, mayors, regional heads and government institutions to work together to carry out development. “This Government Gathering on Good and Green Governance is a form of our appreciation to the Regional Government as UMY’s collaborative partner and UMY academic community for their commitment, cooperation, and hard work in developing and developing regions. This activity is also intended to map regional potentials and bring them together with the academics on campus, in order to produce an innovative idea so that the potential of the region can be further developed for the benefit and welfare of the local community, “said Gunawan.
Meanwhile, UMY Vice Rector of Cooperation and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc, revealed that previously UMY had met with several regional heads to map and find solutions to problems faced by people in the region. In addition to the problems found regarding corruption, collusion, nepotism, and government policies on environmental issues, the meeting also found issues regarding the lack of attention about health in remote communities in the area.
“To respond to the meeting with some of the regional heads, in the future we plan to host KKN for medical students to be placed in remote islands in Indonesia. In addition, because medical students may have never carried out KKN programs, only practical fieldwork at home. We also believe that for the moment most doctors are only centered on the island of Java, so less attention is given in remote areas, where the people who often need medical attention are far from the hospital. This is a new form of contribution from UMY for the people of Indonesia, especially those living in remote areas,” Nurmandi concluded. (ads)
