A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Lombok, Indonesia on Sunday (29/7) at 6.47 local time. Generasi Indonesia Mengabdi (Genesia#3) team performing community service in a 3T (frontier, outermost, and remote) area, Sajang and Bawak Nao, Sembalun quickly responds to the condition.
Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Dr. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. stated that due to the earthquake UMY students in Sembalun are required to assist people there. “The students are helpful to respond to the earthquake. The earthquake with epicenter at a depth of 24 km and located at 8.4 S and 116.5 E caused a lot of damaged buildings, injured, and two dead,” informed Gunawan. The Lombok earthquake was similar to Bantul earthquake in 2006.
Gunawan added that his parties keep contacting the Genesia#3 team and Alhamdullilah UMY students could respond to the earthquake fast and mingle with people in Sembalun. “The students benefit society particularly to develop community programs and governmental programs. There are 50 students in Sembalun that 25 students are in Sajang and the others are in Bawak Nao,” he mentioned.
Gunawan said that UMY, the team, Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) and Lazismu always manage the community and victims intensively. They also will accompany them to reduce trauma after the earthquake. “The team is currently looking for logistical assistance from various parties to be distributed to several villages to set up refugee tents. It is also for long-term assistance to the community and victims,” he ended.
