AIESEC and BEM of Faculty of Language Education of UMY Conduct a Seminar on Leadership

Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Language Education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) collaborating with AIESEC Yogyakarta organized a seminar on Young Leader in a Millennial Era. It was conducted on Saturday (3/11) at Amphitheater of K.H. Ibrahim E6 of UMY.

At an opening remark, Vice Dean II of the faculty Dedi Suryadi, M.Ed., Ph.D. stated that leadership is an essential character that everyone should possess. “In my point of view, people can be divided into several categories. One of them is people who always mingle with community. People with leadership skills will be a role model and benefit community. Students should have the character so that you (students) do not become useless people,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, an Ambassador of ASIAN Games 2018 Hera Dwi Maghfiroh talked about criteria of a leader. “Being a leader is not a gift, but it can be trained by everyone who has good cognitive skills. Leadership is an ability to understand, listen, and utilize our potential so that being leaders should be commenced from ourselves. Being a leaders means having clear visions and knowing what to do,” she explained.

Hera added that each person has a potential to be a leader but sometimes the potential should be explored and firstly actualized. “There are several characteristics which we have to adapt to discover our capability. First, we have to be a global citizen sensible of various issues around us. Second, we have to become an individual focusing on overcoming problems instead of blaming. Next, we have to empower community through build good communication. Last, we have to be aware of, understand, and accept ourselves; indeed, we have to uphold our principles and foster our interest,” mentioned Hera.
