AMCOR of UMY Acquaints Students and Lecturers with the US Election System

American Corner (Amcor) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) cooperating with the US Embassy conducted a seminar on the US Election by bringing theme of ‘Every Vote Counts’. The seminar was conducted on Thursday (27/10) at A.R. Fachruddin A, floor 5, with the speaker Maxwell Harrington, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy, Jakarta.

Director of American Corner of UMY, Puthut Ardianto, informed that the seminar aimed at sharing knowledge of the US election and discussing the campaign and preparation of the election. “The seminar was attended by not only students but also lecturers of UMY as well as participants from other universities in Yogyakarta and Central Java,” Puthut stated on a press release sent to Public Relations Office of UMY on Friday (28/10).

The seminar was expected to enable participants to be actively involved in the discussion.  “Before the seminar, there was debate exhibition as well with the motion ‘This House Believe That Hate Speech Is Justified in US Election’ conducted on 9 a.m,” he mentioned.

He told that the similar seminar had been organized previously. “This is not the first seminar on US election. American Corner of UMY conducted the same event when previous US election,” he asserted.
