American Corner (Amcor) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) secondly collaborating with EducationUSA conducted a seminar on scholarships to study in the United States (US) at A.R. Fachruddin on Thursday (27/9).

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of international student advising centers in more than 170 countries including Indonesia, and provides information on the US higher education systems and how to get US scholarships. In Indonesia, there are nine advisors that one of them is Muhammad Iqbal, who became a speaker of the seminar.

Iqbal stated that EducationUSA offers accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study in the United States. Data showed that 8,000 Indonesian students pursued their education at accredited US universities. As an alumnus of a US university, Iqbal told that he gained a lot of merits of being the alumnus.

“A reason why we have to study in the US is that the US has highly prestigious and many universities are top world universities. Quality and flexibility of the faculties and programs at US universities are incredible, and we can carry out research supported by sophisticated technology, priceless life experiences, and excellent network. Thus, graduating from a US university will easily get a job,” presented Iqbal.

Meanwhile, Janneth from Kaplan Course USMLE (United Stated Medical Licensing Examination) shared information on how to take a specialist program in the US to students of medicine, pharmacy, and nursing. There are three stages, namely a basic science examination, clinical knowledge and clinical skills, and a study case exam that participants will be required to confront a medical issue.

“If you are interested in taking a specialist program in the US while earning money during your study, you have to have a certificate of USMLE. It is similar to a requirement to study in the US that you have to have a TOEFL certificate or a GMAT certificate if you would like to take Master of Business Administration (MBA). Each subject that you would like to take requires you to take a test,” explained Janneth.

Additionally, for further information on scholarships to study in the US, students may reach Iqbal at his email iqbalM2@america.gov or his WhatsApp +62 8118012538.
