Muhammadiyah Steps, previously known as the Muhammadiyah Tobacco Control Center (MTCC) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta held a joint meeting with the Banyumas Regency Government at the Banyumas Regent’s Office, on Wednesday (12/8). The audience was attended by Srie Yono as the Regional Assistant for Economic Development, Amin from the Legal Department of the Banyumas Regional Government and Jasun from the Banyumas Health Office. The meeting discussed the development of regulations related to Smoking Free Areas in Banyumas Regency. In 2016, the Banyumas Regency already had Regional Regulation Number 26 of 2016 concerning No Smoking Areas, but until early 2020, the Regency still did not have any Regulations of Regent Regulations related to Guidelines for Implementing Areas without Cigarettes.
Srie Yono, as the Regional Assistant for Economic Development, conveyed his optimism and enthusiasm to the audience who attended the signing of the Regent Regulation on Guidelines for Implementing No-Smoking Areas which will be completed at the end of August before September. “So in September we already have a Non-Smoking Area Regulation. Previously, in 2019 the Banyumas Health Service together with Muhammadiyah Steps had initiated a Draft Regulation of the Regent for Implementing Guidelines for Non-Smoking Areas,” explained Srie Yono.
Srie Yono’s optimism and enthusiasm were welcomed by Amin as the Representative of the Legal Division of the Banyumas Regency Regional Government who will participate in completing the stages of the Regent Regulation on Implementing No-Smoking Areas which will be completed by the end of August 2020. In addition to strengthening Regent Regulation on Implementing No-Smoking Areas which in Banyumas Regency, the Regional Government of Banyumas Regency has made other implementation efforts such as: Implementation of No Smoking Areas in Health and School Facilities, and rejected many bids for advertisements on the main road because they contradict the existing Regional Regulations.
“Another commitment between Muhammadiyah Steps and the Banyumas Regency Government is that after the implementation of the Regulation for non-smoking areas, there will be intensive assistance in implementing the said regulation which will also be integrated with the handling of Covid-19. This step will be taken considering that smoking can increase the risk of transmitting COVID-19. All of these efforts and commitments are steps to protect the community and young generation in Banyumas Regency from the spread of COVID-19 as well as the dangers of cigarette products and exposure to advertisements,” concluded Amin.
