Athletes of Tapak Suci of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) achieved a gold medal and a silver medal at Kejuaraan Nasional Pencak Silat Antar Mahasiswa (National Student Martial Art Championship) conducted by Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya (Polsri) Palembang on Tuesday-Friday (20-23/11).
A coach of the athletes Muhammad Husni Mubarak the achievement shows an enhancement of Tapak Suci of UMY. “Alhamdulillah, our two athletes gained medals. Viky Julpara Pranata (a student of Department of Agribusiness of batch 2016) obtained a gold medal for Men’s Class B, and Ikhwanuddin Arif (a student of Department of Mechanical Engineering of batch 2017) got a silver medal for Men’s Class A,” informed Husni in an interview on Wednesday (28/11).
Husni committed to provide new exercises to improve techniques and physical appearance of the athletes since a target to achieve three gold medals was not reached. “We wish that the new exercises could escalate quality of the athletes,” he hoped.
Additionally, at the National Student Martial Art Championship, Tapak Suci of UMY competed with hundreds of participants from Indonesian universities. Husni expected that the athletes could learn from their participation in the championship such as their mentality, teamwork, and friendship. “We learned a lot from the championship. I hope that the athletes could learn something so that they can be better,” he expressed.
