To become the International Reputable University, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) cooperated with various foreign universities in the world. One of the very notable universities is with Curtin University Australia that launched New Colombo Plan. The program is a direct support from the Australian Government. “There were five students of Department of Architecture of Curtin University Australia,” stated Eko Priyo Purnomo, M.Res., Ph.D, the Executive Director of Cooperation and International Affairs of UMY,

“New Colombo Plan is an internship program. The five students are conducting a research about building structure in Yogyakarta. We collaborate with Curtin University to assist them performing the internship program. We also sent our expert lecturers that concern in architecture,” delivered Eko at Director Hall of Graduate Building of UMY on Monday (27/5).

New Colombo Plan program will run until August 2019. Through this program, the lecturers will help them to learn about buildings in Indonesia. A Design and Built Environment lecturer of Curtin University, Assoc. Prof. Shahed Khan stated. “Through the program, students eventually can comprehend the differences, not only know the differences.”

As to Shahed, UMY possesses many buildings expert that can help the students to learn about buildings in Yogyakarta. More than that, he believes that the students can gain cultural differences and human humanity values. “Hopefully, students will learn not only science, but also humanity values that they can obtain from their research. Learning the differences of buildings will never be adequate unless the students comprehend the differences through phenomena that happen in the society. This surely will become a valuable experience for students,” ended Shahed.
