‘Progressive’ refers to a movement and it is more than just stepping forward. Being progressive may pass several processes. If it is a graphic, it will rise.

The word ‘progressive’ is often identic to Muhammadiyah. Thus, being progressive is no longer dealing with theoretical, normative, and conceptual aspects, but being progressive is regarding actions.

In Nasyiatul Aisyiyah congress XIII on Saturday (27/8) at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), one of the Muhammadiyah figures, Din Syamsyudin talked about the significance of the change of an organization to a movement.

“A movement is the highest group of people above an organization and community. Muhammadiyah and Nasyiatul Aisyiyah have used the term of a movement so no kidding! The cadres should be more than organization cadres,” emphasized Din, former chairman of Muhammadiyah.

He argued that an organization performs a movement if they move to achieve its goal systematically and dynamically. For instance, Muhamamdiyah is an organization moving vertically and horizontally to show togetherness among elements. However, Muhammadiyah is praxis, combining ideas and actions.

He expected that the congress could encourage NA members to spread Islam and to develop knowledge. “If I am not mistaken, NA will create a science movement. If so, it is a great idea since NA will be the leader of academicians,” he asserted.

Therefore, NA will be identic to two aspects, intelligence and innovation. “The two aspects are essential. Intelligence is dealing with knowledge, while innovation is the result. Developing those two aspects means enhancing our personal capabilities,” he contended.

In his closing, he expresses his appreciation to NA for the success of the congress. “I congratulate for the success of this congress. I wish that this congress would support movement, particularly women’s movement,” he ended.
