As one of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) commits to foster Indonesian youths to confront future challenges. The BRI provided a hundred-million-rupiah grant for 20 students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). The scholarship was awarded on Friday (7/12) at a meeting room of A.R. Fachruddin A of UMY.

A bank manager of BRI Yogyakarta Mlati, Sleman Yunindya Prihendrawan stated that the grant was a program of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the BRI. “BRI possesses several pillars in implementing the CSR that one of them is offerin2 scholarship for students at BRI partner universities. BRI has cooperated with UMY since 201 and we would like to give the reward sustainably. We wish that the scholarship, Beaasiswa BRI Cerdas 2018, can assist students to pursue their degree,” he declared.

Yunindya maintained that, even though BRI is a financial industry, the bank also concerns with human resource development. “A banking industry is not only a financial industry but also a human resource development industry. For one reason, ones running the financial industry are humans. Although financial industries have been operated by technology, humans are working behind the technology use,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. uttered that education is a means to perform jihad in Islam. “Pursuing education is an implementation of jihad, a duty as a human because education leads people live and behave well and shows us that Islam is rahmatan lil ‘alamin,” he believed.

Additionally, Head of Student Counseling and Welfare Center (PKKM) of Student and Alumni Development Office (LPKA) of UMY Triyana, Amd. informed that the twenty selected students were from a number of faculties. “Six of them are outstanding students, while the others are students from low-economic families. Each student will receive five million rupiahs from BRI,” he explained.
