Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut (RSGM- Dental and Oral Hospital) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) collaborating with Unilever (Pepsodent) conducted an annual program, Bulan Kesehatan Gigi Nasional 2018 (BKGN-National Dental Health Month), providing a free dental check-up for people of Yogyakarta at Asri Medical Center. It was organized on Monday-Wednesday (5-7/11).

On day one (5/11), Yogyakarta people showed their enthusiasm for the free dental check-up. 300 coupons offered by the BKGN committee run out before 11 a.m. The committee prepared 900 coupons for three days.

The BKGN aimed to enhance quality of oral and dental health of Yogyakarta people. “We seek to raise people’s awareness of the significance of maintaining dental and oral health. We also expected that people are no longer afraid of checking their dental and oral health,” stated Chairman of the BKGN 2018 Dinda Tri Rahmawan.

The BKGN 2018 cooperating with Persatuan Dokter Gigi Indonesia (PDGI-Indonesian Dentist Association) invited 45 dentists to get engaged in the BKGN 2018. Meanwhile, after registering, patients had to take two stages before entering an examination room.

“Patients are listed in a registration room, and afterwards they go to the second room to take ten queue numbers. Then, they go to the fourth floor to have screening. They say their complaint, illness histories such heart attack, and treatment they want. Besides, there are two brig wards that each ward comprises of 25 dental chairs, and two small wards that each ward consists of 13 dental chairs. The BKGN 2018 affords scaling, dental filling, and tooth extraction,” explained Dinda.

Additionally, the BKGN committee provided an education space for children. It was addressed to educate children about the importance of maintaining dental health. On day three, children were invited to have toothbrush.
