Drum Corps of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (DC of UMY) comprising 105 people achieved a number of awards in national marching band competition, Grand Prix Marching Band (GPMB) 2015. The competition was conducted on 26-27 December 2015 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. DC of UMY became the first runner up of the main division as well as the winner of the higher education category, while the awards achieved were the winner of the best field commander, the runner up of general effect, and the winner of color guard.

In an interview on Saturday (21/01), Chief of DC of UMY Budi Setiawan stated that the performance raised a theme of Sultan Al-Fatih (1453) the Conqueror of Constantinople. “It told the haughtiness of Constantinople led by Byzantine Emperor. The second movement told that Sultan Muhammad II (Sultan Al-Fatih) conquered Constantinople using various war strategies like ship crossing through Golden Horn strait, and wall demolition of Constantinople by basilica cannons. It also displayed the winning of Sultan Al-Fatih in conquering the capital city of Constantinople, and showed that Islam is rahmatan lil alamin, and a religion far from violence,” he stated.

DC of UMY won over other universities. “Alhamdulillah, in this year we achieved the first runner up. The winner of the main division was Marching Band of Semen Indonesia, Gresik, the second runner up was MB Bahana, University of Indonesia, Depok, the third runner up was MB Citra Derap Bahasan, Yogyakarta State University, and the fourth runner up was MB of University of GAdjah Mada, Yogyakarta. Thus, it can be seen that DC of UMY became the winner of the higher education category,” he mentioned.
