Students of Department of Dentistry of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted social service on Friday to Sunday (11-13/5) in Banyuroto, Sawangan, Magelang, Jawa Tengah. The social service under theme of ‘A Small Step, Real Action to Sanify Indonesia was attended by hundreds of Banyuroto people.

Chief of the committee Muhammad Zulhijrianur informed that the social service comprised of several activities such as free medical checkup. “The dental checkup consists of a dental extraction for children and adults, root canal treatment, fissure sealant, topical fluoride application, scaling, a partial denture, and teeth splinting,” he mentioned.

Besides, there were Dental Health Education (DHE), promotion of oral and dental health to students of SD N 1 Banyuroto, regeneration of PKK ladies, cheap groceries, cheap bazaar, and other activities involving Banyuroto people as a fun walk, preaching, and Ketoprak performance, and traditional dance. “The social service mostly engages dentists, doctors, co-assistants from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta,” added Zulhijrianur.

He stated that there were 700 patients, and it was the greatest number compared to previous medical checkup since the target had been predicted about 600 patients. Indeed, more than 1,000 cases were found in the medical checkup.

The social service was supported by Dentistry Student Association (HIMAKAGI), Department of Dentistry of UMY, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science of UMY, UMY parties, Headman of Banyutor Mr. Yanto, and Village Secretary of Banyuroto Mr. Maryoto.

Meanwhile, medical aids such as material to the oral and dental treatment was provided by PT. Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper, PT. Centra Raya Madani, Sikat Gigi Formula, GC, Sinar Wijaya Dental Supply, and Cobra Dental.
