Technology development demands everyone to adapt and utilize the technology in their daily life. For instance, in an educational area, many educational institutions from primary to higher education have leveraged technology for online learning. One of the institutions is Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
The online learning was conducted by UMY, exactly by Department of Arabic Language Education of UMY which collaborated with Saudi Electronic University and Ittihad Muallimii al Lughah al Arabiyah (IMLA/Arabic Teacher Association of Indonesia). They signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 45 Indonesian institutions that one of them was Universitas Negeri Malang on 28-29 September 2018.
The by Department of Arabic Language Education of UMY believed that the MoU signing was to enhance educational services and quality as well to succeed university policy to carry out online courses, the by Department of Arabic Language Education of UMY. A lecturer of Department of Arabic Language Education of UMY Arif Humaini, S.S., M.Hum. mentioned two merits of the cooperation and online course program.
“First, the online learning is free of charge that we usually have to pay it. Second, there are 796 interactive videos, 12,000 mp3 files, 6,320 learning pictures, and thousands of exercises,” told Arif on an interview on Wednesday (3/10).
Additionally, UMY is adaptable to the technology development and entirely supports the breakthrough in learning at by the Department of Arabic Language Education. Recently UMY has participated in national SPDA (Online Learning System) grants by Directorate General for Higher Education and UMY became top five universities with the greatest number of funded proposals. UMY commits to embody that all departments use e-learning in 2021.
“UMY bolsters all programs organized by all departments contributing to educational development. What the Department of Arabic Language Education has done is in accordance with this university target to develop online learning,” declared Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. on a release on Tuesday (2/10).
