The accreditation was announced by National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) on the Decree No. 2016/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VII/2018. The ‘A’ was valid till 2023.
Head of Department of Communication Science of (UMY) Haryadi Arief Nur Rasyid, S.IP, M.Sc. told several aspects assessed by two assessors. “The aspects are department visions and missions, quality assurance management, students and alumni, human resources, curriculum, facilities, publication, and community service by teaching staffs,” he mentioned in an interview on Friday (3/8).
“Department of Communication Science would not be able to gain the ‘A’ accreditation without supports from many parties such as teaching staffs, students, a laboratory and equipment, and alumni,” added Haryadi.
Haryadi thought that an educational institution should bear skilled alumni. One of the competent alumni of Department of Communication Science of UMY was Ismail Basbeth, an alumni of 2004 as well as a young Indonesian film director. His famed films were Mobil Bekas and Kisah-Kisah dalam Putaran.
Haryadi also informed that a vision of the Department of Communication Science of UMY is to be a world-leading university in 2025. “To compete in international levels, we have arranged and applied multicultural communication studies through films by students and research by lecturers since 2013. Thus, we believe that the Department of Communication Science of UMY can be a center in ASEAN,” he asserted.
Additionally, future challenges confronted by the Department of Communication Science will be tougher. Hence, Haryadi expected that all department members could always enhance their capability.
