Department of Governmental Studies of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta welcomed a visit from Department of Governmental Studies of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sultan Thaha Saiffudin, Jambi. The visit was held on Thursday (4/7) at Laboratory of Department of Governmental Studies of UMY. The visit aims to delve more about Governmental Studies laboratories in UMY.

A lecturer of Department of Governmental Studies of UMY, Dr. Phil. Ridho Al-Hamdi delivered a material related to electoral governance. Subsequently, all participants were asked to practice the material that had been delivered. “Electoral governance is a course in Department of Governmental Studies of UMY. Besides, all students of UIN Sultan Thaha  Saiffudin Jambi also received related materials and a practice to calculate votes in general elections for parliamentary chairs or Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) and House of Representatives (DPR), using three different methods of calculation,” stated Ridho. He added that the method of calculation is divided into three approaches, namely Divisor, Quota, and other methods. Each method possesses its own variations with different formulas calculations.

Moreover, Secretary of Department of Governmental Studies of UIN Sultan Thaha Saiffudin, Tri Endah Lestari, M.IP conveyed that the visit aims to observe laboratories in UMY and as a part of cooperation since 2011 between the two universities. “We conduct cooperation every year. On February, we held a visit to Department of Governmental Studies of UMY to learn about department development so that we can obtain many insights from UMY. For the current visit, we focus on practicum in the laboratory,” explained Tri.

Additionally, 52 students of Department of UIN Sultan Thaha Saiffudin Jambi participated in the visit. “Hopefully, all of our students can learn to use laboratory in the department as well as possible. We also hope that the students can implement the knowledge they gained from the visit,” ended Tri.
