Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) always seeks to enhance its educational quality through expanding cooperation with foreign institutions. One of the cooperation program was with the European Union that Department of International Relations of UMY joins ERASMUS+ Jean Monnet Academic Module.
Erasmus+ is a European Union program focusing on educational, sports, and youth field to prepare for social change, particularly policy of growth, employment, equality, and social inclusion. The aims of the Erasmus+ is to assist sustainable development of partner countries and promote European values.
On Tuesday (8/5), a speaker of the Dissemination Seminar of International Relations Student Association (KOMAHI) of UMY Sugito, S.IP., M.Si. stated that the Jean Monnet Academic Module program is in line with the goal of Department of International Relations of UMY. “The program aims to support a European Union subject at this department,” he told.
The Jean Monnet Module on EU International Relations Studies is a teaching program in international relations perspective. The objective of the program is to provide understanding of the EU integration history, sociopolitical and economic issues, and international relations. The cooperation with Erasmus+ comprises two aspects, teaching and seminars. UMY is one of three Indonesian universities joining the program.
Sugito also informed that Department of International Relations of UMY has tried to have the cooperation since 2015. In 2016, Department of International Relations of UMY rearranged a proposal and achieved grants from the Erasmus+ program 2017-2019 and got 86.5 out of 100. “In 2015, our proposal was unsuccessful and in 2016 we proposed it again and it was accepted for the year of 2017-2019.
Besides, to support the Erasmus+ program, Department of International Relations of UMY published a book entitled ‘Supranasionalisme Uni Eropa’ by Ali Muhammad, M.A., Ph.D., who is also a lecturer of Department of International Relations of UMY. The book was a proper book for people learning the EU.
