Department of Nursing of UMY Inaugurates Posyandu for Teenagers in Petung

Physical and spiritual health of people, particularly teenagers, should be maintained. Teenagers are ones interested in something new and a number of Indonesian teenagers are affected by negative impacts as HIV, drugs, bad lifestyle, and others.

Indonesia has had an answer to the issue by providing Posyandu (health service), but most people only recognize the Posyandu is only dedicated for babies and toddlers. In fact, there is Posyandu for teenagers that enable them to control their lifestyle.

Noticing the issue, students of Profession Program of Nursing of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta of batch 2014 promoted Poyandu for teenagers in Petung, Bangunjiwo, Kasihan, Bantul.

The Posyandu for teenagers, called Nahwa Ashihhah meaning ‘get healthy’, was officially inaugurated by Pardja Headman of Bangunjiwo and people of Petung and Aceng representing of Community Health Center (Puskesmas) Kasihan 1 Bantul on Sunday (27/1).

“Before the Posyandu for teenagers was launched, there were only Posyandu for the elderly and Posyandu for toddlers. Now three of 19 hamlets have complete Posyandu,” Head of Petung Suratman.

He thanked UMY for helping Petung to complete the Posyandu and Petung teenagers may become good generations since they have comprehended diseases faced by teenagers. The Posyandu for teenagers may also enhance their understanding of NAPZA, puberty, HB, sex education, and reproductive health.

“I wish that the Posyandu can be sustainable so that teenagers of Petung can be excellent generation in the future,” hoped Suratman.

A lecturer of Department of Nursing, Ema Waliyanti, S.Kep., Ns., MPH informed UMY has conducted community service in Bangunjiwo since 2000. She believed that the Posyandu for teenagers is a medium for young generation to prepare their future from a medical aspect. Besides inaugurating the Posyandu, the nursing students assisted by medical workers od Puskesmas Kasihan 1 provide a medical check-up.
