Department of Pharmacy of UMY Wins the Second Place of OFKI

Department of Pharmacy of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) the runner up of grand champion of Indonesia Clinic Pharmacy Olympiad (OFKI) 2016 by achieving two gold medals and two silver medals. Of 35 teams competing in the OFKI), UMY was represented by two teams, consisting of three students of each team. Team A comprised of Komarudin, Aiyun Astiani, and Danang Aji Wiguna, while Team B encompassed M. Deni, Aulia Rahma, and Amirah Haerani.

The OFKI was organized in Health Training Agency (Bapelkes), Denpasar, Bali on 27-28 October 2016 by Pharmacy Higher Eduation Association of Indonesia (APTFI) collaborating with Health Training Agency (Bapelkes) under Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristek DIKTI) of Republic of Indonesia. The OFKI comprised of seven competition categories, namely poster competition, scientific writing competition, pharmaceutical care and case report, self-medication tournament, patient counseling event, clinical pharmacy quiz, and pharmaceutical debate.

In an interview on Thursday (1/11), Komarudin, chief of the teams, stated, “We gained the winner of pharmaceutical debate, the winner of scientific writing, the second runner up of clinical pharmacy quiz, and the second runner up of poster competition. I also obtained the other achievement besides the medals which was the best speaker for individual category.”

“Team A successfully finished in the final round and got three medals, while Team B achieved one medal for poster competition. Alhamdulillah, we must be grateful for what we gained,” he inserted.

Komarudin and his teams did not expect to achieve many medals. “We did not have certain preparation for the OFKI. We only exercised to write the scientific writing and to make a poster. The key was studying as the OFKI theme which is degenerative diseases, and trusting our friends. We tried our best during the competition,” he told.

He wished that UMY could maintain or improve the achievement in the next competition. “We gained only one gold medal last year. I hope that it can be fostered next year,” he expected.
