Many experts declared that civilization nowadays shows the world of disorder and the world of uncertainty. An enormous shift of the world has occurred since the world now embraces thoughts of liberalism, secular humanism, and neoliberalism economy which is anti-God and considers humans as the center of all-round and versatile life.
However, Prof. Dr. K.H. Muhammad Sirajudin Syamsudin, M.A. or well-known as Prof. Din Syamsudin believed that Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika can become a role model to face the change. Indeed, a lot of foreign Catholic figures appreciate Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. He mentioned two resolutions to confront the world shift.
“First, there should be binding values or agreement so that the national motto of Indonesia Bhinneka Tunggal Ika should be promoted globally. We are different in terms of the nation and religion, but we unite. In fact, since 1400 years ago before the term human rights exist, Islam through the Charter of Medina drafted by Prophet Muhammad encourages us to live together. This is what the world needs today,” declared Din Syamsyudin when delivering the national oration at the 54th anniversary commemoration of Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) bringing ‘Reinforcing Pancasila as the Spirit in Politics of Indonesia on Wednesday (14/3) at building of Ibrahim of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
Second, we need an ideology as Pancasila besides Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. “Pancasila represents religious values. Figures of all religions in Indonesia have agreed with what founding fathers of Indonesia declared that Pancasila is the official foundational philosophical theory of Indonesia and the national principle is truly appropriate for the diversity of Indonesia. Indeed, Pancasila is the crystallization of religious values,” emphasized Din who was elected as Chairman of Muhammadiyah 20015-2010 and 2010-2015.
Din inserted that Pancasila should be upheld whenever and wherever we do all activities dealing with the stated. “The foremost aspect to live as one nation and state is to have a principle as Pancasila. Pancasila is essential to face the world civilization development which accentuates the state egoism. This is the reason why figures in the world appreciate Pancasila. This principle will remain suitable for the world civilization. Indeed, Catholic figures said that Bhinneka Tunggal Ika can be a model to live in a nation and state,” he maintained.
