Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta has cooperated with overseas universities for many times. The current cooperation is simultaneous cooperation of Dual Degree 2015-2010 with Flinders University, South Australia.
The signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was conducted on Thursday (14/4) at Flinders University. It was represented by Dr. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. (Vice Chancellor of Academic Field of UMY) and Professor Nancy Cromar (Vice Chancellor and Vice President – International of Flinders University).
Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UMU Dr. Ali Muhammad interviewed on Friday (17/4) told that MoU of the Dual Degree program is a program of International Relations of FISIPOL UMY and School of International Studies, Flinders University. The program schema is 3 plus 1. “It implies that students of International Relations of UMY could join the Dual Degree program for 3 years at UMY and 1 year or two semesters at School of International Studies of Flinders University by paying full tuition fee. Then, students are required to back to UMY to accomplish an undergraduate thesis,” conveyed Ali who also attended the signing of MoU at Flinders University.
This Dual Degree program, continued Ali, is only for students of HI UMY who have accomplished four semesters since it would be undertaken in semester five and six. In the seventh and eighth semester, the students back to UMY to finish their undergraduate thesis. This program would begin in the next semester, and the students who have already accomplished four semesters could register to International Relations office to join it. Nevertheless, this program is specifically for students of International Program of International Relations.
Ali inserted that, joining the Dual Degree program, students would achieve double degree, namely S.IP. (Bachelor of Political Studies) from UMY and B. Int. St. (Bachelor of International Studies from Flinders University. “This Dual Degree program is fascinating since students of International Relations of UMY could achieve B. Int. St. from Flinders University only for a year or two-semester study,” he asserted.
In the signing of MoU at Flinder University, attending were professors of Flinders Univesity as Professor Matt Taverner (Director, Partnership and Student Service), Professor Phyllis Tharenou (Executive Dean, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences), Professor Martin Griffiths (Dean, School of International Studies), and Dr Priyambudi Sulistyanto (Senior Lecture). Besides, it was also attended by Dr. Ali Muhammad (Dean of FISIPOL UMY) as the representative of UMY.
