Economics and Politics are inseparable sciences in their implementation. Economics could not work by itself without support of political policy. Indonesia’s economic development should be encouraged by political stability in Indonesia. If the politics is not stable, the policy of democratic economic development must be tough to perform.

The aforementioned statement was expressed by House of Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPR-RI) vice chairman Fadli Zon, S.S., M.Sc. in national discussion and book review of “Ekonomi Politik Pembangunan” (Economic Political Development). The event was organized by Economics Student Association (HIME) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). It took place in meeting hall of A.R. Fachruddin B Floor 5 UMY on Saturday (21/02).

“Creating developed economy need become a politician and have power in order that economic development could work. If people state that it is only economics without the interference of politics, they must be lost,” he conveyed.

Fadli argued that no one in these cabinet ministers is good at their field. He contended that there are still many people who are more expert and are supposed to be the strategic positions.

“I think that the present cabinets are not magnificent people. There are a lot of brilliant and expert people in the fields. I commented in the 100th day of this government that we seem like watching a circus. We are entertained by the programs, but in fact there is nothing behind them,” stated the one graduating from School of Economic (LSE).

He maintained that New Order era succeeded developing economy of Indonesia, although the era bargained away democracy. He considered that Soeharto regime successfully developed Indonesia economy. “Mr. Harto was a good listener. He was an ordinary person but willing to listen to smart people. It could be noticed that in Mr. Harto era most ministers were professors so that the success of economy was measured,” he explained.

As Fadli, an author of Ekonomi Politik Pembangunan Prof. H. M. Dawan Raharjo uttered that the key of development is the political stability. Government might not doubt to establish policies. He argued that all state organizers ought to be unified in completing political duties. “All parties should be unified to carry out their political duties. Thus, the development of democratic economy could be implemented. Indeed, in Mr. Harto era the development succeeded because everything went in line with Soeharto,” he expressed.

Dawam inserted that government nowadays is filled by doubt so that they get difficulty to run planned economic development. “Jokowi is full od doubt. Thus, I say that it would be hard to perform planned economic development. It was interesting when I read Yudi Latif’s writing that Jokowi does not dare to Megawati. It drives him doubt to make decision such as the issue of KPK-POLRI.
