ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will begin in several weeks, and Indonesia as and the other ASEAN countries should improve a lot of aspects. One of the aspects is fair business climate competition among ASEAN communities. Thus, it needs to harmonize law competition among ASEAN countries. The statements were declared by a commissioner of Indonesia Business Competition Monitoring Commission (KKPU) Drs. Munrokhim Misanam, M.A., Ec., Ph.D. He acted as a keynote speaker of public lecture of ‘Nurturing Fair Business Climate through Regional Integration and Harmonization of Competition Law in ASEAN’. The lecture was conducted by Faculty of Law of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) collaborating with KPPU and Universitas Kembangsaan Malaysia on Saturday (5/12) at Building A.R. Fachruddin, Floor 5, UMY.
Drs. Munrokim mentioned several business competition policies which may trigger conflicts. Those are policy that can create a dominating position of a company, policy to facilitate agreements with companies to quit for a while in confronting law business. “The other policy is a part of government intervention on market to restrict the number of companies in business market,” he informed.
Dealing with the policies, ASEAN community has to prepare for four pillars. First, ASEAN integration in global economy is necessary since the economic competition occurs not only in ASEAN but also globally. Second, the number of business production should be enhanced soon to face market competition. Third, ASEAN is competitive economic areas so that business climate competition of ASEAN is quite tight, and prone to emerge conflicts. Fourth, well-distributed economic development should be the concern to coin fair and equal business climate. “If the four pillars are implemented well, fair climate business in ASEAN will exist. Indonesia will no longer be frightened to confront the AEC because Indonesia must have been prepared for the strengths of the business climate, and Indonesia only needs to apply and control what to be optimized,” he argued.
Furthermore, Dean of Law Faculty of UMY Dr. Trisno Raharjo, S.H., M.Hum. conveyed that the essential point to face the AEC is dealing with the encouragement to foster services so that the fields will create productions that the products will coin business competition. He inserted that, if the business competition is not well-managed, it may not bring public welfare. “Business climate of ASEAN community is expected to be better to confront the AEC. Indeed, Indonesia has potentials and is more prepared than other countries in business competition. Nevertheless, even though Indonesia has been ready, the implementation should remain to be supported by the country itself and the other ASEAN countries,” he contended.
