Communication Photography (FOTKA), a semi-autonomous board of Communication Sciences of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) organizes the fifth photography exhibition with the theme of ‘Teriak Diam!’ (Silent Shout!). It was conducted on 19-20 February 2016 at Loop Station Telkomsel.
Head of Communication Sciences, Haryadi Arief Nur Rasyid, S.IP., M.Sc. stated that the theme was quite interesting since it was dealing with social critics in community. “The photos are adequately good. This exhibition is expected to be able to enhance students’ ability in photography techniques,” he wished.
Haryadi also analogized a photographer like a pilot that the more his flight hours are, the grater his working is. “I wish that this exhibition can provide good experience for the members of FOTKA of UMY, and can encourage them to always work in photography field,” he hoped.
Besides, the exhibition chief, Dimas Andika Sinatra, conveyed that the exhibition aimed at describing the condition of Indonesian people, particularly in their jobs. “A lot of students have had demonstration to demand a policy by government, but it does not bring any impacts on the community. To criticize the issue, the students raised the theme in the exhibition. It also pointed at encouraging students to assist the community,” he told.
Additionally, there were 12 participants joining the exhibition, and there were 92 displayed photos. Before the exhibition, the members of FOTKA of UMY had had training of basic knowledge of photography. “The participants learned several techniques of photography like a basic technique of camera, photo journalism writing, and other supporting materials,” he ended.
