Students of Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) are facilitated to apply their knowledge gained at classes. The faculty offers an internship program in various institutions in Indonesia and overseas. Two of them are Toucheng Leisure Farm, Taiwan and Khon Kaen University (KKU), Thailand.
UMY and Toucheng Leisure Farm officially agreed to cooperate. “UMY is now attempting to collaborate with some institutions in Taiwan. Alhamdulillah, UMY and Toucheng Leisure Farm were willing to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Students of UMY will have an internship for two months. They will learn the cultivation of crops, plant ecosystems, and the agro-tourism management on 20 hectares and 120 hectares of land owned Toucheng Leisure Farm,” stated Dean of Faculty of Agriculture of UMY Indira Prabasari, Ph.D. in an interview on Tuesday (5/9).
Students are expected to leverage the internship occasion at Toucheng Leisure Farm. “I wish that the students could seriously learn agro-tourism management such as offered programs and interaction with visitors. They may also get inspired to open their own job and to preserve nature. During the internship, the students will not become cheap labors. We have required the institutions to give the students specific job description and to be monitored by a supervisor,” told Indira.
“Students should pass several selection stages since more than 100 students are interested to join the internship program. They are eligible to participate in the program if they possess required Grade Point Average (GPA), good English proficiency, and involvement in organizations. If they pass the first stage, they will be interviewed by parties from departments of Faculty of Agriculture of UMY. Then, four selected students will have the internship program on October,” explained Indira.
Meanwhile, some students will also have an internship at the KKU, Thailand. “The students will do the internship in agricultural laboratories such as a seed lab and a cultivation lab. Only 10 students will be selected,” ended Indira.
