Event series to commemorate the 38th Anniversary of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) have commenced from a beginning of February to the end of March. Carrying “Millennials and Global” as a theme, UMY conducted a futsal competition for lecturers and staffs on 16 and 23 February in a futsal field of UMY.
Five teams contended for collecting as many points as possible. Those teams were K.H. Ibrahim, K.H. Faqih Usman, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, K.H. AR. Fachruddin, and K.H. Mas Mansyur. Rules of the match set 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 point for a loss.
In first day of the competition which took place on 16 February, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan team led standings due to two consecutive wins after defeating K.H. AR Fachruddin (4-2) and K.H. Faqih Usman (2-1). On 23 February, the second day of the competition, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan incised two more wins after subverting K.H. Ibrahim and K.H. Mas Mansyur.
After gaining four perfect victories, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan team was officially declared as the winner of the futsal competition in the series of UMY’s 38th Anniversary Commemoration. However, a main objective of the competition was not to determine winners and losers, rather to strengthen bonding among UMY members.
Vice Rector for Human Resources Dr. Nano Prawoto, S.E., M.Si. stated on his opening speech, “The purpose of the competition is not solely to obtain satisfaction or victory, but as means to interweave our brotherhood and do exercises.” He also urged the futsal participants not to be hostile to each other and suggested that people should be grateful to welcome the celebration.
