A team of Engineering Student Organization (HMM) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogykarta (UMY) won Classic Auto Fest 2013 conducted by Indonesia Ancient Car Fan Association (PPMKI), in a category of the Best Restoration. This competition was held on from the 22nd to the 23rd of November 2014 in Sindo Kusuma Edu Park, Magelang. The team achieved the runner up that most of the participants were collectors of antique goods and cars. Besides, the other important aspect was that HMM’s team was the only participant of youths, particularly of university students.

Yudi Riizkiawan, the chief of Workshop Division of HMM, in the office of Public Relations and Protocols on Tuesday (25/11) stated that in the contest his team brought a classic motorcycle released in 1974. The motorcycle, belonging to a lecturer as well as the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department of UMY, Ir. Novi Caroko, S.T., M.Eng., was modified. Thus, the motorcycle looked new. “We share the duties to 17 people since the team consists of those 17 members. We repaired the motorcycle which has been rusted, and we fixed the engine as well. Then, we modified and re-colored,” he explained.

Yudi told that the judges were surprised when the classic Suzuki motorcycle could seem new. “It was assessed from the originality of the motorcycle and the result of the restoration. The judges were astonished how the motorcycle could look good. In fact, we prepared it for seven days only. It was different from other participants who have been collectors,” he conveyed.

The collectors joined the competition, according to Yudi, were the ones who love classic cars or motorcycles. Hence, the competed cars and motorcycles in the contest had been treated well every day. It was distinct from what was displayed by the team of HMM UMY. Since the 74-realesed Suzuki motorcycle was got to be restored seven days before the competition, “So that, it is one of the merits. Our team achieved the runner up and defeated other classical motorcycles belonging to the collectors,” he continued.

The same statement was uttered by Yoga Rendra, the chief of HMM UMY. He was proud of the achievement his team got. Their love in automotive field brought them to be victorious over the national competition even though, he argued, his friends previously was pessimist and mentally down before the competition. “Because they notice that the participants are collectors who have owned such great classic motorcycles. And, they have obviously had experiences in such kind of the competition,” he mentioned.

Nevertheless, Rendra continued, it would not drive his team down to join the competition till the end. Then, they finally got the runner up of the Best Restoration. “It makes us proud and we did not suppose that we could be the runner up since it was the first time we joined the Classic Auto Fest,” he uttered.

Yudi and Rendra expected that they could keep being innovative in an automotive field. Both of them hoped that they could achieve other better achievements.
