Advertising is necessary for a business to acquaint its products. Various media were utilized to attract public attention to use the product. Audio, visual, and outdoor advertisement has been elevated in broadcasting advertising trough applications of a mobile phone. One of the advertising media is interactive advertising.
Based on the background, Communication Sciences (IK) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) organized an UAS (Final Exam) festival on Saturday (20/6) at Lobby of FISIPOL UMY. Hundreds of Communication Science students attempted to utilize interactive advertising as creating pictures, statues, photos, and videos.
A lecturer of IK UMY Erwan Sudiwijaya, S.Sos., MBA informed that the festival aimed at drilling students’ ability in working on advertising. For one reason, it necessitates appropriate and well communication so that public would recognize the advertisement. “The UAS festival essentially points at exhibiting students’ works to public so that the works would be not just for students’ assessment. In addition, the festival is also for training students’ skills to work because what is needed by companies from Communication Science graduates is not only their excellent grade but also their portfolios,” he conveyed.
He inserted that the UAS festival comprised of assignments of three courses, namely 80 print ads and 18 ambient media of Produksi Iklan 1 (Advertising Production 1), 9 ambient media od Perilaku Konsumen (Consumer Behavior), as well as 8 brands and 9 videos on study case of brand activation of IMC (Integrated Marketing Communication). “Only assignments of three courses are displayed in the UAS festival. I expect that this festival could be sustainable and become an annual event of IK UMY that all assignment could be exhibited all at once,” he added.
Furthermore, a student of IK UMY 2012 Annisa Ihtiarina stated that the UAS festival could become a reward and an appreciation for students’ assignments. “I could not agree more with conducting this festival since communication students’ works could be shown to students of other departments. Moreover, students could find out what advertising products look like,” she said.
