Intellectual property is rights of products and services which should be protected as appreciation for the creators. In an event of “Intellectual Property Rights (HAKI) Goes to Campus” organized by Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Thursday (26/10) in building of K.H. Mas Mansyur of UMY, Haryanto, S.H. promoted the HAKI. He explained the definition, kinds, infringement of HAKI and how to acquire the HAKI.
“Students are inseparable from the HAKI in terms of their appearance, forms, layout, functions, brands, and undergraduate thesis. The thesis is intellectual property and it is an art or literature of science. All of these are mentioned on Law No. 28/2014,” stated Haryanto.
“Many people misunderstood HAKI and intellectual property. Both of them can be seen not only physically but also non-physically. The HAKI is the result of human’s thoughts,” he inserted.
“Taking a document, singing a song, and produce it abundantly without permission of the creator are infringement. That someone sings a song and she/he achieves a reward without telling the song author is also called infringement,” told Haryanto.
He hoped that the HAKI promotion enabled students to know HAKI deeper and to understand HAKI aspects. Besides, the students were expected to contribute to preserving HAKI and to evade themselves from the HAKI infringement.
