Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is selected by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) to implement a program of ‘Perguruan Tinggi Asuh’ for private universities. The program enables ‘A’-accredited universities to assist ‘C’-accredited universities in improving their quality assurance. This year UMY supervises six private universities.
“The program aims to enhance higher education quality in terms of accreditation and document completeness owned by universities. As one of the universities possess excellent quality or ‘A’ accreditation, Kemenristekdikti mandates UMY to supervise other universities having incomplete documents, particularly documents owned by departments, affecting their accreditation. UMY is in charge to help universities whose departments are mostly accredited ‘C’,” stated Drs. Mujiyana, S.H., M.Sc. as Head of Internal Quality Assurance Division, Quality Assurance Office (BPM) of UMY in an interview on Thursday (31/5).
Mujiyana also mentioned six universities supervised by UMY, namely 3 departments at Universitas Respati Yogyakarta (UNRIYO), 4 departments at Institut Teknologi Yogyakarta (ITY), 4 departments at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari, 5 departments at Universitas Sulawesi Tenggara, 1 department at Akademi Keperawatan PPNI Kendari, and 4 departments at Sekolah Tinggi Kesehatan Mandalaya Waluya. “Thus, there are 7 departments in Yogyakarta and 14 departments in Kendari,” he told.
The program is commenced through management improvements at the universities. “First, we should have a different insights with the universities so that they will possess good quality management. Second, there will be a workshop to arrange quality documents. Then, we will tell them how to monitor and evaluate. Afterwards, results of the monitoring will become a follow up to the next program activities,” explained Mujiyana.
UMY already equated and organized a workshop of the document arrangement on 12-14 May in Kendari, while in Yogyakarta the other view equation held on 11-23 May and the document arrangement workshop will be conducted on 5 June. “The third activity is an internship program on 11-14 July that UMY invites 14 department heads and four head of quality assurance of the supervised university. They will observe UMY, units, departments, and offices. UMY later will visit the supervised universities to monitor them. Last, in May, we will show them the monitoring results and explain how to construct programs well so that they will be better next year,” maintained Mujiyana.
He added that UMY also assist and supervise them in preparing for accreditation. “After the program, we hope that the universities can be better and increase their accreditation from ‘C’ to ‘B’ or from not having accreditation to having accreditation next year. Indeed, their quality insurance can be fostered,” expected Mujiyana.
