KOMAHI UMY Hold School of Journalism

International Relations Student Corps of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (KOMAHI UMY) held another journalistic training for students. This time KOMAHI UMY presented a number of journalists in the “School of Journalism 2012” held on Friday (8/6) in the Meeting Room of Faculty of Social and Political Science and in the Meeting Room of Faculty of Economics, Integrated Campus of UMY.

KOMAHI UMY presented a senior reporterof Kedaulatan Rakyat Krisno Wibowo, News Anchor Metro TV Lalita Gandaputri, Swaragama FM announcer Tika Yusyuf, and a journalist of TempoNewspaper Pito Gustin.

Senior journalist KR Krisno Wibowo not only deliveredsome tips to write news but also outlined some of the dynamics that occur in the world of printed journalism nowadays. He considered, the current printed media competition is getting tougher especially with the development of other forms of media, such as online media. “To keep the public glimpse, the printed media must start having innovation if they do not want their enthusiasts prefer online media. For example, by having layout innovation. Many of printed media, then,also participate in developing the online media.”

Krisno, on this occasion, also urged that the journalist should prioritize the concept of peace journalism rather than war journalism. It means that, journalists should not write stories aimed at sparking a conflict to become hotter. “In conflict, journalists should also not expose the problem from only one party. This will only cause harm, “he said.

Meanwhile, Metro TV News Anchor Lalita Gandaputri explained how to become a television journalist. In addition, Lalita also shared some experiencesshe gained during her journalistic career, one of them is when she covered the eruption of Mount Merapi, few years ago. The event closed with the practice of good journalism, both printed and electronic media, by Swaragama FM Announcer Tika Yusyuf and Journalist of Tempo Pito Gustin.

The chairperson of KOMAHI UMY, Anis Abdillah, saidthat SOJ 2012 is the end of a series of major agenda of this organization held in 2012 entitled “International Relations Art of Challenge 2012.” SOJ 2012 closed the previous series of trainings, that is, diplomat trainingentitled “Diplomatic Course”and Workshop on International Relations Research, last May.

Anis expected that these numbers of activities can be used by all students as means of scientific development of International relations which are very broad. “International Relations graduates do not only work as diplomats, many of them are now engaged in the world of writing, both scientific writing, and journalistics. International Relations lectures, in this way,can provide extensive knowledge; thus, students are trained to think more complicatedly,” concluded this International Relations student of UMY batch 2009. Korps Mahasiswa Hubungan Internasional Univeristas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (KOMAHI UMY) kembali mengadakan pelatihan jurnalistik mahasiswa. Kali ini KOMAHI UMY menghadirkan sejumlah jurnalis dalam “School of Journalism 2012” yang diadakan Jumat (8/6) di Ruang Sidang FISIPOL dan Ruang Sidang FE, Kampus Terpadu UMY.

KOMAHI UMY menghadirkan Wartawan Senior Kedaulatan Rakyat Krisno Wibowo, News Anchor Metro TV Lalita Gandaputri, Announcer Swaragama FM Tika Yusyuf dan Wartawan Koran Tempo Pito Gustin.

Wartawan Senior KR Krisno Wibowo selain memberikan sejumlah kiat menulis berita juga menguraikan beberapa dinamika yang terjadi di dunia jurnalisme cetak saat ini. Ia menilai, persaingan media cetak saat ini semakin ketat terlebih dengan berkembangnya bentuk-bentuk media saat ini, misalnya media online. “Agar tetap dilirik masyarakat, media cetak harus mulai melakukan inovasi kalau tidak ingin peminatnya lebih memilih media online. Misalnya dengan inovasi layout. Banyak juga media cetak yang karena ini ikut mengembangkan media online”.

Krisno dalam kesempatan ini juga menghimbau bahwa jurnalis harus mengedepakan konsep peace journalism ketimbang war journalism. Artinya, wartawan hendaknya tidak menulis berita yang hanya bertujuan memicu konflik menjadi lebih panas. “Dalam konflik jurnalis juga tidak boleh mengekspos permasalahan dari satu pihak saja. Hal ini hanya akan menimbulkan kerugian,” katanya.

Sementara News Anchor Metro TV Lalita Gandaputri menguraikan bagaimana menjadi jurnalis televisi. Selain itu, Lalita juga menceritakan sejumlha pengalaman yang ia peroleh selama menjadi wartawan, salah satunya saat meliput meletusnya Gunung Merapi beberapa waktu lalu. Acara ditutup dengan praktek baik jurnalisme media cetak maupun elektronik oleh Announcer Swaragama FM Tika Yusyuf dan Wartawan Koran Tempo Pito Gustin.

Ketua Umum KOMAHI UMY, Anis Abdillah menyebutkan, SOJ 2012 merupakan akhir dari rangkaian agenda besar yang diadakan organisasi ini pada tahun 2012 bertajuk “International Relations Art of Challenge 2012. SOJ 2012 menutup rangkaian kegiatan sebelumnya yaitu pelatihan diplomat “Diplomatic Course” dan Workshop penelitian HI, Mei lalu.

Anis mengharapkan, sejumlah kegiatan ini dapat dimanfaatkan seluruh mahasiswa sebagai sarana pengembangan keilmuan HI yang sebenarnya sangat luas. “Tidak hanya menjadi diplomat, banyak lulusan HI yang kini berkecimpung di dunia menulis, baik menulis ilmiah, maupun di dunia jurnalistik. Perkuliahan HI dalam hal ini dapat memberi pengetahuan yang luas sehingga terlatihh untuk berpikir secara lebih kompleks”, pungkas mahasiswa HI UMY 2009 ini.(fariz)
