Law students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) achieved the runner up of student constitutional debate of the central region organized by the Constitutional Court (MK) on 26-28 April 2016 at University of Lambung Mangkurat (UNLAM).
In an interview on Tuesday (3/4), the member of the debate team of UMY M. Hazyar Arumbinang informed that his team competed with 24 other teams. “All the teams firstly submitted an articled with a theme of ‘Presidential Threshold in the General Elections 2019. After that, all the teams were divided into eight groups and UMY’s team was in one group with UGM, UNDIP, UIN Jakarta, University of Pancasila, University of Bhayangkara, and IPDN,” Binang stated.
“After the elimination round, UMY passed to the quarterfinal round competing with UNS, in the semifinal round UMY won over UNDIP, and in the final round UMY reached the runner up competing with UIN Jakarta being the winner as the previous year. The second runner up was UGM,” Binang mentioned.
UMY’s team comprised M. Hazyar Arumbinang, Bagus Priyo Prajoso, and Munandar. The team also became the winner and achieved the best speaker in a debate competition organized by PSKH UIN Yogyakarta in 2015. “My team will join an national debate conducted by MK in Bogor in June 2016,” Binang ended.
