Law Students of UMY Achieved the Winner and the Best Speaker of Debate Competition by PSKH of UIN Sunan Kalijaga

Students of Law Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyh Yogyakarta (UMY) became the winner and the best speaker of Student Law Debate competition across DIY. The competition was conducted by Law Study and Consultation Center (PSKH) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in celebrating Law Week 2015 raising a theme ‘Democratic Law Accessibility to Coin Indonesian Welfare’. It was held on Sunday (13/12) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.

In an interview on Monday (14/12) at Public Relations and Protocol office, Mohammad Hayzar Arumbinang, the Best Speaker of the competition, informed that there were 19 teams joining the debate competition and 7 of the 19 teams were from UMY associated in Law Student Debate Community (LSDC) of UMY. “Alhamdulillah, our team passed to the final round and achieved the winner as well as the best speaker, while the runner up was UGM,” he told.

There were several rounds in the debate competition, namely preliminary round, quarterfinal round, semifinal round, and final round. “We won over other teams from several universities like the host UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta State University, and a team of UMY,” he mentioned.

Additionally, his team member comprised Munandar, Bagus Prigo Prasojo, and himself who are Law students of UMY of batch 2012. They prepared for joining the debate competition for three months. They prepared the debate motions and how to express their argument well. “The preparation aimed at mastering the debate motions and training how to state our argument,” Munandar conveyed.

He also informed that they will join the other debate competition in the next coming months like debate competition organized by UII, and Constitutional Debate conducted by Constitutional Court (MK).
