Lecturers of UMY Initiate a Program of CEKOSI

Cases of diseases at a certain time and region increase year by year. Some of the causes are an unhealthy lifestyle and lack of information on prevention and health control. Noticing the fact, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science (FKIK) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) collaborating with Office of Health of Muhammadiyah Branch Board of Ngaglik, Sleman, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) conducted a health program and regular medical check-up entitled ‘Cerdas Kontrol Kesehatan Sendiri’ (CEKOSI) for peole in Ngaglik. The program may enhance people’s knowledge of health and the people can preserve and control their health.

Organized on Sundays each month at Masjid K.H. Ahmad Dhalan, Sariharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman, a program coordinator Indriastuti Cahyaningsih, M.Sc. stated that the program was undertaken in collaboration with health staffs. “They are physicians, dentists, and pharmacists of the FKIK of UMY. The program comprises of health training, a medical check-up, information provision and counseling of medicines received by patients,” declared Indriastuti.

She added that each patient may possess their medical records. “They also have therapies given by a doctor and results of vital sign and rapid tests of the patients’ blood so that their health progress can be monitored,” added Indriastuti.

“The program may provide the people information on health, diseases and medicines they consume. It may also motivate them to actively control and maintain their health. In fact, the program is an implementation of interprofessional collaboration among medical staffs of the FKIK of UMY to support community health,” she ended.
