Majelis Tarjih dan Tajdid (MTT) of Central Board of Muhammadiyah fleshes out a book of Fiqih Kebencanaan (Disaster Fiqh), which encompasses tarjih decisions post national congress 2015 in Yogyakarta. The MTT believed that the book needs to be revised and systematized through some reviews.
“This book is an effort to care about people and take sides of the poor and marginal people post-disasters,” declared Chairman of the MTT Syamsul Anwar at workshop on ‘Re-systematizing a Book of Disaster Fiqh’ at A.R. Fachruddin A of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Saturday (12/1).
Syamsul stated that the workshop aimed to add discussion of fiqh aspects and to gain experts’ critical thoughts about causes and effects of disaster management on exploited people who are often marginalized and become homeless.
“For instance, a group of people assumed that Lombok disasters were a result of immorality. Disasters-affected victims in Lombok were bullied. Can we imagine that their area was hit by disasters and they were exploited? Here, we attempt to diminish the condition to prosper this nation,” declared Syamsul.
Meanwhile, Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi maintained that an elaborative structural approach should be undertaken to raise holistic awareness.
“We have to recognize disasters carefully and understand them entirely from various perspectives. Afterwards, we can arrange scaffolding to enhance disaster awareness holistically and proportionally,” he emphasized. Sri expected that the book can escalate public disaster awareness and reduce disaster effects.
Besides, other workshop speakers were Hamin Ilyas (fiqh-tarjih perspective), Agus Setyo Muntohar (disaster perspective), and Taqwadin (legal perspective). The workshop was also attended by Majelis Pembina Kesehatan Umum (MPKU) of Muhammadiyh, Lazismu, Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), Center for Disaster Management of UMY, representative of Muhammadiyah offices.
