Manasik (Hajj rehearsal prior to the hajj in Mecca) becomes one of the factors could affect the hajj pilgrims’ emotions. Meanwhile, one of the biggest challenges for the Hajj pilgrims to reach the true hajj is emotional management, which they could resist their anger while in Hajj.
Allah SWT forbids behaving badly like quarrel, anger, and stating inappropriate words during Hajj. However, there is no guarantee that some of Hajj pilgrims may express that kind of behavior. There are many factors that may influence the Hajj pilgrims to trigger their anger such as weather, other Hajj pilgrims’ behavior, and lack of service management.
In his dissertation defense of doctoral degree of Islamic Psychological Sciences at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Saturday (02/04) at AR Fachruddin A, Drs. H. M. Naim, M.Ag (Dean of Islamic Faculty of Universitas Muhamdiyah Surabaya) said that to cope with the problems, Manasik becomes the main factor to assist the Hajj pilgrims to increase their emotion management. “If the Hajj pilgrims are in proper social environment, including education and debriefing session prior to the real Hajj in Manasik, their emotion will be managed well”. Nevertheless, the temperamental Hajj pilgrims need to be given special treatment during the Manasik. The Hajj pilgrims’ guides are responsible to oversee and to guide continuously over the Hajj pilgrims during the Hajj process.
Mr. Naim emphasized that the physical trauma is necessary to identify since their participation in Manasik. “Some of the Hajj pilgrims have the traumatic experience that need special treatment from their guide. Those kinds of causes can trigger their anger when they deal with unpleasant incident during Hajj,” he expounded.
In the 27th dissertation defense, Mr. Naim successfully achieved A. In his speech, he suggested the Hajj Management Agency to dispense the proper education and debriefing over the Hajj pilgrims in order to maintain the emotion of Hajj pilgrims. Furthermore, it could be better if there is coordination and cooperation between the guides and the agency.
“The Hajj pilgrims aside from Hajj management agency need to get intensive guidance from the government even though Hajj pilgrims from both the agency and officials have same right to get the service from the officials,” Naim argued.
