Educational competitiveness has occurred in national and international levels. This circumstance prompted Master of Governmental Studies of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) to invite a visiting lecturer from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Associate Prof. Dr. Halimah Abdul Manaf on Friday (3/11) at Graduate School building of UMY.
Prof. Dr. Halimah Abdul Manaf is a senior lecturer of Human Resources Management in Local Government at School of Government of UUM. He possesses teaching experiences in various universities in many countries.
“”I am happy to come to UMY because I can see the excellence of this university. First, students of UMY, particularly of Department of Governmental Studies, have excellent academic capability and experiences immediately from government. Second, UMY possesses a great infrastructure and green area supporting students to learn. Third, the networking at UMY is good,” expressed Dr. Halimah.
Meanwhile, in an interview, Dr. Dyah Mutiarin told that UMY signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UUM. The MoU has been running for seven years. Both universities have conducted programs of student exchange, student mobility, joint seminar, and joint conference. “We will attempt to undertake joint degree, particularly for Master of Governmental Studies of UMY and Master of Public Administration of USIM,” explained Dyah.
She said that Master of Governmental Studies of UMY has organized the visiting lecturer program for three times. “The first visiting lecturer was from Korea University, the second visiting lecturers, in 20016, were from Thammasat University and Khon Kaen University Thailan, and now the visiting lecturer is from UUM. Master of Governmental Studies of UMY is now focusing on enhancing international competitiveness,” asserted Dyah.
Besides, Secretary of Master of Governmental Studies of UMY Erni Zuhriyati, S.IP., M.Si. mentioned Prof. Halimah’s schedules. One of them was giving a public lecture on the course of ‘Participation in Local Government’. “She will also deliver a public lecture in the courses of Urban Planning, Urban Management, and Management Information System,” told Erni.
“She will give a public lecture that we will invite a number of stakeholders of strengthening the capacity of the state apparatuses, particularly in the governmental information technology field. We invite the headmen in Bantul and Sleman, and several SKPDs related to public relations from regencies in Yogyakarta and the ones focusing on the implementation of e-government so that the apparatuses can adapt to the time,” stated Erni.
