MBN of UMY Conducts Leadership Training for People in Kokoda, Papua Barat

Mahardika Bakti Nusantara (MBN), a team of community service of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) organized leadership training (LDK) for young people in Warmon, Kokoda on Saturday (16/9). Conducted for two days at Building of Tilawatil Qur’an Center LPTQ) of Aimas district, Sorong, the training was attended by invited guests that one of them was Secretary of Mayamuk district M. Khaerul Asik.

On a release on Wednesday (20/9), M. Khaerul Asik stated that training is necessary to assist government enhance human resources, particularly in Warmon. “We expect that there will be another training engaging young people to develop this village since Warmon since the human resources is still left behind,” he said.

Besides, chief of the training committee Yoby Afis Dimedjo told that the training was an effort to overcome an issue of human resources in Warmon. The human resource development is essential to hold as it will break the poverty chain in Warmon. “People of Warmon possess low education and most of them survive through hunting and concocting. On the other hand, areas near Warwon are dwelt by various tribes who have already been more developed and have lived their life through farming, gardening, and raising. Thus, these differences often trigger conflicts among them,” informed Yoby.

In addition, the training materials included Islam as a way of life, awareness of inclusive learning, awareness of building a village, inter-ethnic tolerance within Papua contexts, awareness of drug and alcohol impacts, discussion on village mapping and emphatic games, and mutual cooperation. The leadership training, indeed, aimed to reestablish Karang Taruna (a youth organization) of Warmon, Kokoda.

“I am pleased to join this training and I hope that after this youth in Warmon is more unified and can make this village better,” expressed Risma, one of the training participants.
