Yogyakarta hosted National Student Sports Olympiad (O2SN) 2018 conducted on 16-22 September. The O2SN was officially opened by Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Muhadjir Effendy on Monday (17/9) at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
Muhadjir declared that the 11th O2SN was special since it was conducted after Asian Games 2018 and when Asian Para Game on 19 September 2018.
“Good luck, everyone. I wish that this O2SN could be a competition to enhance your talent and interest in sports areas and instill honesty and sportiveness within yourselves,” expected Muhajir.
He also stated that O2SN participants will be able to go to international Olympiads. “Several gold medalists at the Asian Games 2018 were alumni of the O2SN so that I wait for achievements,” declared Muhadjir when delivering an opening remark in front of 1,938 participants from 34 Indonesian provinces.
The participants attempted to achieve 448 gold, silver, and bronze medals. “Being the winner is essential, but working hard and being honest as well as sportive are the most crucial aspect at the O2SN,” emphasized Muhadjir.
Additionally, the O2SN aimed to build students’ characters to maintain their sportiveness and appreciate other Indonesian students. Thus, Muhadjir hoped that the O2SN could create better characters of this nation.
